The Project by Courtney Summers

5.0

I am.... in awe. This book completely shattered all my expectations of what it was going to be. I loved Sadie and I expected The Project to have a similar vibe. To a certain extent it does, but it's also so much more than a New Adult thriller. The thriller elements don't even get introduced until the very last quarter of the book as Lo finally is confronted with the solution to the mystery of the cult. Yes, this book is a thriller, but it's more an exploration of trauma, grief, faith, and loneliness. It's emotionally charged and compelling. It reminded me more of Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (the emotional elements) than it did Sadie. I think this is my favorite read of the year.
