Reverse by Kate Stewart

Funnily enough, the one main negative thing holding me back from fully loving this sequel was the general inclusion of the first story lol. Yes! I know this book wouldn't exist without the original story, but wowww—the annoying immaturity and exaggeration from the first book, predominantly found in Stella's character then and now here, made for an eye roll-inducing conflict between the two main characters, Easton and Natalie. I get that the parents being exes would be awkward for anyone, but the problem didn't feel like the massive obstacle it was made out to be for the majority of the book. Natalie's perception of that old relationship and how it influenced her thoughts on the current state of her parents' marriage was the one highlight for that conflict in the story arc.

Still, the story was a lot of fun to read and the chemistry? Palpable.

I have no clue how she does it, but Kate Stewart is able to write broody, "asshole" type of guys in such a way that it never feels over-the-top or hilarious. You want said asshole guy to win the girl in the end after a good grovel. And the light-med angst?! Ugh. Loved it.
