This book was a bit of a roller coaster, in the longest, and most arduous way possible. There were bits thats I really enjoyed (the orchard scene specifically iykyk 😏) but the story felt so encumbered alot of the time by the world building details, I almost felt like I'd rather be stung by hundreds of yellow jackets then to keep reading. Also, as a trigger warning, there are a lot of overly descriptive incidents regarding that "accidental" eating of bugs and having had my own traumatic accidental bug eating event recently, those descriptions made me physically ill. But I guess credit where credit is due, so kudos to the author for getting into my psyche. I think at the end of the day I wished that the story was more streamlined and we were able to spend more time with the three present day characters instead of jumping around in the time line so often. Also a whole chapter dedicated to a pseudo obituary for a side characters was a bit much, imo.
