clockworkbook 's review for:
Roma Queen
by Callie Hart
Trigger Warning: pedophilia, abuse, rape, torture, mutilation, psychological manipulation and kidnapping.
First off, evil in the most depraved and heartwrenching way torment Zara and Pasha as they race to rescue Sarah. The opening chapter absolutely destroyed me and I had a really hard time reading such a heinous subject, especially in the voice of a child victim. It was realistic, raw and devastating.
Pros:
Amidst the heartbreak we have the polar opposite, love. Love in the most sincere and beautiful way. I absolutely love Zara and Pasha. Pasha's brutal honesty, sincerity and steadfast certainty was so beautiful to read. Everyone should be loved that way.
"You feel like a constant. You're a song I've always known. I can hum you, the sound and the tone and the melody of you filling every single fiber of my being. I can't seem to remember the lyrics of you, but every second I spend with you, I am seeming to figure out where they fit." - Zara
“I wouldn’t have let you go,” he says. “If you decided we weren’t supposed to be…” He shakes his head, changing tack. “I would have f#$!&% fought for you, Zara. I would have made sure you knew that, for me, this isn’t just real. This is the only thing that’s real. The only thing that matters. Everything else is just white noise.” - Pasha
Cons:
The first half of the book was slower than the last half. Consistency issue with age (16/23). Ending left some things unresolved.
I recommend this series, but warn that you read Roma Queen with caution, especially for those who may be triggered by subject matters listed above.
