House of Bane and Blood by Alexis L. Menard

5.0

Oh, Alexis, Menard has a hit on her hands with House of Bane and Blood. This book makes the list of my most surprising reads of 2023.

A little bit Peaky Blinders, a little bit steam punk, definitely gaslamp fantasy, all mixed with a marriage of convenience a badass MMC, and a feisty FMC. This book was definitely a winner for me.

I really enjoyed experiencing Nico and Milla’s relationship from rivals to lovers develop throughout the course of the book. Alexis does the perfect job of balancing the tension between these two with just the right amount of spice pay off.

Also, really enjoyed the world that she built that placed magic and science into this very steampunk world, with feuding families, rising political tensions, and magical characters. It’s a very stark, dark world (with a seedy underbelly) that Nico and Milla find themselves in.

Grab myself a special advanced pre-order copy of this one. I loved it so much.Do yourself a favor and add this one your list and get ready for a wild ride.
