The Red Pyramid
by Rick Riordan
Lots to say here tbh. I’ve been going through and reading all the books I loved when I was younger and this one really held up!!! I was impressed with the poise that Rick wrote black, mixed characters. For like 2015 when the social awareness for the average person wasn’t really there, I’m glad he was communicating some of these struggles to kids. I liked the magic system a LOT. Effortlessly integrated. Kind of a mix between hard and soft magic but I think it really works. My favorite thing was absolutely hating Sadie Kane the entire time I read this book until she grew on me at the end. Girls like here were not friends with girls like me when I was a kid, and I thought Rick had just made this absolutely insufferable character and then as I learned more about her I realized she was kind of the perfect 12 year old girl and characterized beautifully. So so so fun & I can’t wait to finish the series! This was the only Kane Chronicles book I read as a kid.
