Only the final five chapters piqued my interest, pulling me out of the reading slump. The story seems character-driven, yet I find it puzzling why no one in their childhood village except Saffron and Bridget is willing to offer assistance.
The scene where Jeanie lives in a public toilet and struggles to find help to get food lacks realism. It's unrealistic that she wouldn't care to notice about her health or seek clarification from a doctor. Additionally, when facing cash flow issues, it's unrealistic that she would ignore visiting the bank or cashing the pay cheques from Saffron. As for Julius, the author portrays him as a social person and an extrovert, yet he doesn't have a single friend. Despite having some education, he lives a lifestyle similar to his sister, who struggles with illiteracy.
