Craigslist Confessional: A Collection of Secrets from Anonymous Strangers by Helena Dea Bala
2.0
There are interesting and heartbreaking stories in this collection. It's reminiscent of Cheryl Strayed's Tiny Beautiful Things, but where Strayed offers advice and inspiration to the people telling their stories and the readers, Dea Bala leaves both to grappel with the stories themselves. At a certain point, it began to feel like real people were being used as objects. It's not salacious, but it it left me unsettled at what the people interviewed were meant to get out of this book.
