Finished it last night and what a ride that was! Absolute page turner! Quite literally! And I had spoiled some chapters for me because of that.. Some regrets though...
The anti climax was such a huge shock to me that I had to put my hand onto my mouth for fear of screaming out loud as it was 3:00 am something in the morning. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought that I would read a classic this quickly as in would gobble it down like a greedy person.. It was that good! I Loved Manderly though. What a site it was! So so beautiful and equally creepy at night with those big rooms, closed west wing, dark woods, forever awake sea and that cove at the beach. The writing was absolutely beautiful... Perfect to be honest! Classic and yet I didn't have to work hard to read every other line as usually classics make me do. There was something peaceful about the book for me and that nagging feeling that our nameless heroine so often got aslo managed to got me and didn't leave me until the very end. The end though... What an end! Our protagonists didn't deserve it to be honest! I wish we readers were told the name of the heroine because why not? I was furious with her because she was a push over from the start. Yes she was very young and but she trotted around the house as if it wasn't her husband's house at all and yes Maxim de Winter was very reserved but she didn't even try and made scenarios from her own. But that was the fun of it, right?
