I saw this author at a Thurber House event. She discussed the great prejudice that American immigration had against the Chinese. I learned about "paper sons", the fire that burned after the Great Earthquake in San Francisco destroyed all records so that many Chinese claimed to have citizenship papers, birth certificates, etc. that burned in that fire & the Confession Program. I learned alot reading this book.
