Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

I finished this last night and am still thinking about it.

This is my favorite book in the Stormlight Archives so far. Dalinar in one of my all time favorite characters, and it was so gratifying to read his point of view.

These books are somewhat of a philosophy lesson as well. I think Brandon Sanderson must be very wise, and I really enjoy his commentary on overcoming difficulties in your life, the nature of art, human behavior, etc. Surprisingly these books have given me good mottos to live by, especially in this book.

Dalinar is exactly the kind of character/person I love. Someone who can be strong enough to overcome their past mistakes, their past pain and disappointments, and rise above it, because there is so much more life to live. So much more to give and create. Also he's got a tight butt, confirmed. (Thank you Lift). And is shirtless quite a lot so...yay!

These books are still very PG, and that's fine, I personally prefer a little more grit and spice in my stories, but these are still amazing.

A loooot happens in this book, and there are so many characters, that for me it's difficult to remember everything. I think it could have been maybe just a tad bit shorter, but then again, I think it may just be perfect as it is.

I'm glad I didn't listen to people who said the series goes "downhill" after book two, and that books 3 and 4 aren't as good. I don't know what tf they were on about because this is hands down the best book in the series. I'd be willing to say that even before reading Rhythm of War. But we shall see.

I used to say that the ending of The Way of Kings was my favorite so far...nope. Not anymore. That ending has been dethroned by the ending of Oathbringer. Amazing. No notes. Chef's kiss. Like I mentioned in my review for Words of Radiance I thought that ending was too block buster, and a little too much was happening at once, but I didn't feel that way with Oathbringer. I thought it was perfect. The "You can't have my pain" scene was...wow.

Anyway, I have a feeling this book will stick with me for some time. I even want to put it on my shelf of most favorite books, lol. Though that means I'd have to part it with its siblings.
