Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation by Octavia E. Butler

4.0

I'm kind of glad that I don't remember too much from the original non-graphic form of this book because I was able to come into this one fresh. First, let's step back and admire how this story was written almost FORTY YEARS AGO. I mean . . . so original and fresh. The fact that it hasn't been optioned as a screenplay is just scandalous. It is true that the content is fairly complex and it is a bit difficult to keep track of some of the characters. Further, this is not a Hollywood-type story where the white guy suddenly develops a heart of gold at the end. Spoiler alert: he's still a racist, sexist pig at the end. This book would make a great companion with the show, "Underground."

By the way, the graphics themselves are truly gorgeous.
