Point Blanc
by Anthony Horowitz
As much as Alex Rider would wish to curtail his nascent spy career after the high danger of his first mission, he finds himself sucked back into the vortex once again. This time he is used to infiltrate a posh school for troubled youths high up in the Alps and discover just what is really happening there. He reluctantly does so and shortly uncovers a couple of villains with as diabolical a plot as any you might find in a James Bond adventure. This mission will require all of the versatility Alex can bring, to include changing his own personality to blend in.
This second novel in the Alex Rider series is just as packed with adrenaline-powered action as the first. These books are so much fun that it is easy to overlook the conveniences of the plots and the sheer luck that is involved with keeping our young hero alive and relatively uninjured. But there is much more to these books than just action and this time we delve into the idea of being used by those in power. That applies to both the bad guys’ plans as well as to MI-6’s use of Alex himself, a fact that he recognizes all too well. In fact, Alex’s observations of human society is one of the aspects of these books that make them exciting to read. It isn’t hard to see why these books have become one of the go-to series to entice young people to get into reading.
Another fun entry in the series. Looking forward to more.
