Well, I finished this trilogy about 10 years after I started it. I liked book 1, liked book 2 a bit less, and then found book 3 to be a miss. I was mad at the 1o0 pages of random backstory in The Twelve, and then Cronin did the EXACT same thing in City of Mirrors. I didn't really need 100+ pages of zero's backstory in an already extremely long book.
I also disliked the heavily religious dream sequences, the seemly random child abuse, and the romance (I fully cringed through all the weird romantic purgatory sequences). If all of the dream sequences were taken out, and the book shortened by 200 or so pages (which honestly, if they were removed along with the backstory- that's 200 pages right there) then I think it would have been quite a bit more enjoyable. I think I'm mostly just mad because it had a great deal of potential and Cronin can write a great action sequence.
I'd recommend just reading book 1 and leaving it there because The Passage was in my opinion the best of the trilogy, just pass on books 2 and 3.
