The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu

5.0

A picture of life in Harare under Mugabe - not from a political angle but from the perspective of the towns best hairdresser. At least until competition shows up in the salon. The personal story and the living conditions are intertwined: The poverty, rampant inflation, income gaps, queuing, bribing, rape, violence and persecution of white african farmers and homosexuals. But that's just the (very real) background for a story about real people, friemdship and love.
