erikakay 's review for:
Mortal Stakes
by Robert B. Parker
I am re-reading all the Robert B. Parker Spensers* in order and seeing how they hold up with time. Plus, I love Spenser and RBP.
July 24, 2023: Mortal Stakes, published 1975
This book is the introduction to Spenser's ethical code that readers will come to know better throughout the series.
"I don't know if there is even a name for the system I've chosen but it has to do with honor."
~ Spenser
Later in the series Parker starts to be more vague with years to write around Spenser's age but in this book Spencer references serving in Korea, specifically the Inchon Invasion.
2023 rating: Two stars.
*This exercise will cover only RBP's Spensers, not those written for the series after Parker's 2010 death.
