The Rose by Tiffany Reisz

I treat my romance/smut like I do junk food. I don't quite talk about it even though I occasionally find myself reading them, just like how I don't talk about the time I ate an entire costco size bag of cheddar ruffles in a single sitting while studying for finals but it inevitably happened. But I'm genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed this book. First, the writing was actually pretty good. The storyline was engaging and the inclusion of reimagined greek mythology was so fun! Second, the actual romance between August and Lia was slow-burny (well...an emotional slow-burn, not a physical slow-burn hah), not instant, and not purely defined by sex. Third, consent and boundaries were respected!!! Emotional vulnerability applauded!! I feel like all these three things are sometimes missing from erotica and I was really surprised how well this was done.
