Every Secret Thing by Laura Lippman

3.0

This story could have been shortened by AT LEAST 100 pages. The author is really fond of tangents and ramblings for pages on details that may have to do with the setting but really don't affect the story whatsoever. For the vast majority of the time, nothing is happening. The writing is decent and the mystery is intriguing, so at first the reader doesn't even notice.

But around the 200 page mark you become suddenly aware that you are 50% done with this story and nothing at all has happened. No clues. No answers. No nothing. And you start wondering what the hell you've been reading and if you just missed the part where the author moved the story along. But no. You haven't.

I won't give away the unending but it's entirely unbelievable and unsatisfactory after what you have to sit through to get there.
