I'm surprised at the high ratings. The writing was a bit twee and cutesy at times, the plot was overdone and just had too many eccentric/stereotypical characters in it.

Not to mention the sudden reunion of adult child and parent who didn't even know of child's existence. Every book needs one of them, semi-randomly tossed in the middle.

As a reader, I barely got time to grasp one thing before it was off in a completely different direction. I see that other readers think this makes it "zany" or "fun-filled", but how many times *can* a regular person get shot at in just a few days?

I think it was just overdone in an effort to be clever or to keep the story moving. It's getting deleted from my Kindle (even though it was a free ebook anyway).
