Hakim's Odyssey: Book 1: From Syria to Turkey by Fabien Toulmé

5.0

✨ "I never could have imagined this would happen to me, and I realize now that anyone can become a 'refugee'... All it takes is your country falling apart. And you either fall apart with it, or you leave."

A harrowing graphic memoir about the Syrian civil war and refugee crisis that everyone should read.

I love how the book explains things and gives context in a comprehensive yet engaging manner . All the info is well-presented and never feels like overload, whether it's the history of Syria, its many communities, the ongoing conflict or what's at stake for people. It's what makes this book stand out from its counterparts in the genre. I also feel much more informed now.

This is the first of three volumes and I can't wait to get my hands on the other books so that I continue following Hakim's journey.
