This was cute! I really loved the authors writing style, it was cozy but also kept me on my toes. At times I felt like I was sitting in the PNW at the seashore. Just beautifully done.
The mystery itself was great, I enjoyed solving it with Saffi, it was fun to not have more details than she did and really work the pieces of the story with her. The only part of the story that had me utterly puzzled was the raven. We’re not introduced to it until chapter 5, and even then we’re really missing a backstory. I would’ve loved some kind of backstory there — whether it’s the mythology behind it or just more detail on how it relates to Saffi — I felt like I was left out of important details. Especially as everyone seemed to totally get it and not think anything weird. Maybe this was something that got cut during a round of edits? Or maybe I just need to go read more about birds. Either way, it didn’t take too much away from the story, but it was a head scratcher at times.
