Forget Me Not by Julie Soto

3.0

Once again, I feel a little bit let down by the BookTok hype. I listened to the audiobook for this, and the performances were really great. Overall, I think its a solid rom com with an interesting concept, but Soto ultimately doesn't follow through with the character development for Ama. The whole point of the book is that they broke up because of Ama's inability to commit/fear of being left/fear of marriage, but that is never really addressed outside of Ama acknowledging that this is a flaw she has. No work is done to help her dismantle these fears/address why she feels this way and how she can overcome these feelings. She just kind of... decides she wants Eliot back and then kisses him. Especially when compared to Eliot's self awareness post the proposal (about how he pushed her into something she told him she didn't want) Ama's character development fell flat for me. However, their relationship is cute and I found both of them intriguing enough as characters to finish the book. Also (and don't kill me for this) but I didn't really understand the point behind Eliot's tattoos or Ama's obsession with them??? I'm sorry, I'm sorry!! But she is so enamored with them for no reason, and we are given like NO BACKGROUND about why he tattoos these flowers he can't have on his body (other than that he needs to have the tattoos already so that the Amaryllis one makes sense later on).
