A very tender, very queer, coming of age/grappling with your past story. Reading about Sav becoming more confident and sure of herself over the course of a semester was touching and emotional in all the right ways.
Jakobson managed to capture the tender heartbreak that is so unique to crushes so incredibly well, it reminded me how thrilling they can be.
The tenderness that Sav holds for her friends, and starts to hold for herself, is a lovely lovely thing. The tenderness that her friends hold for her is a lovely lovely thing. The pain of realizing you’ve outgrown/grown away from your childhood best friend is its own kind of heartbreak and WOW did this book capture it perfectly.
The grief, connection and support that Sav receives from her friends, and gives to Lara, is so beautiful and bittersweet; if only there wasn’t the need for that communal grief and anger.
Overall a beautiful book
