We were introduced to Gabby Boudreaux, the youngest in the family in the first book. She's the single mother of Sam and runs an inn the family's old plantation house. So when her soon to be sister-in-law sends her cousin Rhys O'Shaughnessy to the inn to recover from a baseball injury, he's immediately taken with the inn keeper and her son, who happens to be his biggest fan.
Gabby hasn't felt this attraction to anyone in a long time and soon they decide to explore their feelings. Will this be a fling or is there hope for them to become a family?
This one is cute. I loved how Rhys and Gabby don't try to pretend that they aren't attracted to each other and how their relationship develops. I also loved how he immediately takes a role in Sam's life too.
My biggest grip with this (and I'm giving this a pass as it's an older book and things get dated and less acceptable with time) is how glamorized is the fact that they own a plantation house in this story. Though Gabby does mention the "atrocities" that happened there that she's not proud of, she is very proud of the renovations of the "slave quarters" and they're mentioned often, as an attraction. I have to confess it bothered me every single time.
Narration: Since Rhys is not from the south, the lack of accent from SebYo here isn't as strange as it was in the first one.
Possible triggers: teenage pregnancy, surprise pregnancy, child abandonment, attempted extortion
