Read the trigger warnings before you begin.
I loved this book and this story and these characters while simultaneously hating what I was reading. An epic family saga that spans generations, explores colonisation and its fallout all with an eye on the magical. The writing is epic. The pace and tone reminds me of Catch-22. I hated the misogyny, found myself hating the author, but - as another reader pointed out - this is what colonisation looks like.
