Suspicious Minds by Gwenda Bond

3.0

This book takes us back to 1969 and we meet Terry Ives. If you’re a fan of the show then you may remember that Terry is Eleven’s mother. This is the backstory of how Terry became involved with the experiments at Hawkins Lab, headed by Dr. Brenner. She and three other people sign up to be a part of a study and get more than they bargain for in return. Again, if you’ve seen the show then you know how it all ends for Terry. This was a fun addition to the greater Stranger Things world. If you’re a fan of the show I think this book is with your time if you’re interested in learning more about this backstory. It’s not particularly groundbreaking and at times a bit slow paced but I enjoyed it for what it was. It definitely gives you all the nostalgia like the show, just a different time period. The author did a great job at setting the scene of 1969/1970–working in things like the Moon landing, the Vietnam War, clothing and cars, etc. While this didn’t give me the same feelings as watching the show, I still enjoyed diving back into the world though it didn’t have quite the suspense and heart.
