San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats by Mira Grant

5.0

I hesitated at five stars...am I rating for quality of storytelling and writing? Or rating for "enjoyment." Hrmmm.

This is an extraordinarily high quality story. The writing is truly superb. The characterization is masterful. The description of Comic-Con is amazing and dead on. And, if you let yourself acknowledge it, you know what's coming the whole time- Grant does not lie or sugar coat the reality she introduces in the first pages.

But this book is mean, and it gave me all the feels, and it made me cry. It's a very well-written study in sorrow and the reality of heroics that don't have an up side, even though they ARE heroics.

*shakes fist at sky* MIRA GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT.
