The Vintage Guide to Love and Romance by Kirsty Greenwood
3.0
So, I was initially attracted to this book because of the cover. Aaaaaadorable. It’s in one of my favorite color combos, and it has a vintage dressed chick on it. I dress in vintage repro myself the majority of the time, and I was really hoping this would be about a girl learning she loves that style too.
It wasn’t.
If I had to sum this book up in one word, it would be: cringy. For at LEAST the first half of the book, Jess is a selfish, self-indulgent, promiscuous lush, with the sole desire to be the drunken life of the party. That is literally her priority in life. She is unreliable, and embarrassing at every turn. I hated her. How she had the self discipline to be a decent writer was slightly baffling to me.
The only reason I gave this book even 3 stars was because it was well written and interesting, and I wanted to see how it all turned out. The last couple of chapters Jess becomes semi- decent. I mean, I would still never hang out with her if she were real, but she did grow and mature. I don’t think I’ll be reading any more from this author. She’s clearly not for me.
