Weirdly pretentious, and the way the challenging words were introduced felt annoyingly pedantic (plenty of middle grade novels manage to use complex diction without coming across as so condescending).
I couldn't connect with the MC and couldn't figure out why the title is "Pony" when there is no authentic connection between Silas and Pony. Even Mittenwool seemed vague and underdeveloped. It was fine, but just seemed like Palacio was holding everything at arms length.
