Terciel and Elinor by Garth Nix
5.0
This is fantastic. Getting this book at this point does help us see just how far the Old Kingdom has fallen, how much knowledge has been lost, and how desperate the state of the Abhorsen truly is. Once again, Nix is further developing his already rich world, giving us a peek at things on both sides of the wall decades before the events of Sabriel.
I love Elinor. She's creative, curious, and interesting, though I initially had her pegged as a bit younger than she was. I love her interest in plays, acting, and circus activities. I really like how she thinks things through logically to identify her next course of action. In comparison, I feel we didn't really get to know Terciel quite well enough. It was intriguing to be there at his introduction to the situation with Kerrigor, when so little was known. I enjoyed the quirks of paperwings.
I do hope this is not the last time we get to walk in the Old Kingdom.
