Reclamation, music and zines what's not to love here? I really love this story about identity and belonging it's important to me as a POC who grew up in mostly PWIs and as a parent raising a biracial child who has every right to identify differently than me.
My one criticism in the messaging is that Malú never realizes that she is critical of her mom for much the same reasons that her mother is critical of her. Like where is the acceptance and understanding of her mother's "traditional" expression of her culture? Maybe that's too much self-awareness to expect from our 7th grade narrator?
