The Private Diary of Mr. Darcy by Maya Slater

3.0

This book was a struggle for me. I adore Pride and Prejudice and I always love reading more about the characters, but there were a lot of things about this book that were really off-putting. The parts that were based on Austen and that just gave a look at what Darcy was doing during the separations were great. And if it had stuck to that I think I would have really liked this book.
However, the addition of multiple scenes involving sexual violence were super unnecessary and uncomfortable. And they both involved underaged girls. It was kind of upsetting and I don’t understand what the though process was in adding them since they added nothing and ultimately did not change the plot. The scenes were not graphic but they felt really out of place with the rest of the book and left a bad taste in my mouth.
