Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie
4.0
Another great Christie mystery. Although this was a reread for me, I couldn't remember who the murderer was and was fooled - once again! This puts me in the interesting position of being fooled twice by the same mystery, indicating that it's very good, but also not having remembered in the first place, suggesting that, unlike some of Christie's other works, the story isn't as impactful. Dilemma.
Still, it's a fun cast here, with Miss Marple lurking in the background against the usual assembly of vicars, old women, bright young things, artists and all the other characters you'd expect to inhabit an english village at the time. There's some absolutely cracking humour here too (Agatha was genuinely such a talented humourist) and this is particularly evident in the form of Griselda - the vicar's wife who doesn't give a fig about housekeeping or being a good wife - a rather refreshing narrative.
All in all, a solid Christie offering.
