I understand why this book is at the top of everyone's recommendation lists. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the characters (and as a NYC enjoyer, the descriptions of Brooklyn). Eva captured my attention from the very first moments, in the way she is written and the way the character jumps off the page; it felt like I knew her, she was someone I wanted to be friends with. Both Eva and Shane are troubled characters who are trying to grow from underneath the shadow of their past, but they are relatable and lovable even when they are frustrating. For a novel set over the span of a week (with some throwback scenes) it felt drawn out; I felt like I was living in every moment with the characters and embracing their story in a really unique way. Definitely read the content warnings for this one, though!
