Forget Me Not
by Q.B. Tyler
TRASH TRASH. THROW THE WHOLE MAN IN THE TRASH.
I'm not rating this because I went into it believing I probably wouldn't like it. So it just seems unfair to rate it. I believe cheating is unforgiveable. I would never, ever forgive cheating in my own relationships. So I was wondering if this book could convince me there is a case where cheating can be forgiven.
Spoiler: it did not. It just reminded me that cheaters are the worst and I hate them.
Like wtf was this book? The husband, the husband's mom, the husband's best friend are all like oMG but hE'S sorRY for WhaT hE diD. YoU'rE Not INNocEnt In ALl tHIs. Like the woman is depressed bc she's had two miscarriages. Yes, she's not handling it well. Yes, the "hero" tries to help her. Yes, she refuses to go to therapy. Yes, she does nothing to help herself. I get it. Truly, I'd believe the hero was justified in leaving her over this. She's going through a depression, which is understandable, but she's doing NOTHING to try to help herself, and the hero has to suffer alone. All of this understandable. I will say she has blame in the marriage falling apart. But... idk I will NEVER, EVER, EVER, *EVER* say it's partially her fault that he cheated. HE chose to cheat. That was all him, and she will NEVER have blame in that.
So I'm like, "Okay, he'll at least grovel, he'll find ways to win her back, he'll remind her of how they fell in love in the first place, he'll show that he's trustworthy again. Okay, *maybe* I can buy it."
BUT NO. THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENS. He has to live with her again, and she just thinks he's so fucking sexy that she cannot stop herself from mauling him. Like this man CHEATED on her, but every time he's in the room, she's like a horny fucking teenager and is like, "He walks out of the room and I can see his collarbone and damn he's so sexy, my pussy is so wet already." Like I'm not slut shaming her at all. It's GREAT that you think your husband is hot and sexy and sex is important in a relationship, but it was literally THE ONLY THING IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP. We do not get ANY glimpses as to why she might be interested in him other than being sexy.
He then also does NOTHING to make up for what he did or to gain her trust back. NOTHING. In fact, after he cheated on her, he then CONTINUED TO SLEEP WITH THE OTHER WOMAN. Supposedly it was only twice, but somehow she was close to his mom and also the people in his apartment building knew who she was? But it was only twice? Like clearly he was spending a lot of time with her. But we're supposed to think that's okay because he was "miserable" and still wore his wedding rings and missed her the whole time. WHAT THE FUCK.
After he's back, he just acts like a cocky asshole, winking at her and being like, "Oh baby you know you want me." Rather than groveling and begging for forgiveness and trying to figure out ways to show he's sorry. No, he just acts like a cocky POS but since he's "sex on a stick" it's all fine.
Then, instead of earning her trust back, HE DOES THE OPPOSITE AND FUCKING BETRAYS HER TRUST. He gets his memory back and then DOESN'T FUCKING TELL HER. So instead of REBUILDING trust, he ACTIVELY SHOWS HER THAT SHE CAN'T FUCKING TRUST HIM. She finds out, reasonably decides they shouldn't rekindle. But then... SHE GOES BACK TO HIM. AFTER HE'S DONE NOTHING TO PROVE HE'S SORRY, NOTHING TO PROVE HE DESERVES IT, NOTHING TO EARN FORGIVENESS. She's just like, "Yeah I remember the good times and the sex is really good so let's get back together."
WHAT?? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK????
Oh, and don't forget, they get their HEA with babies and the book literally ends with them having sex bc the only thing in their relationship is sex.
