Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

“A profiler, an emotion reader, and a lie detector went to a party…”

Bluntly, I cannot organise my thoughts, so I'm going to list them:

- A love triangle I don't hate? This was new for me. Obviously the romance is not the biggest focus of the series, but I am still finding myself insanely invested and genuinely not sure how it is going to end? Even though she ends up 'choosing' in this book, a part of me doesn't believe it will end this way? I'm honestly just shocked and impressed that JLB has managed to write a love triangle I actually care about, let alone believe everyone's feelings/confusion of feelings.
- Cassie is still serving as a main character. She is easy to relate to, yet also has her own quirks/faults/feelings.
- Similarly, I love our girls so much. The Cassie / Lia / Sloane trio is my new obsession.
- I also love the way the mystery aspect of this one unravelled.
Spoiler The way we are introduced to all the possible killers, just to be given alibis, then to find out it was all of them killing each other's targets? I am still amazed.

- Somehow the thriller vibes of this one really pulled through. It felt more menacing than book 1 somehow.
- Also, I love Agent Sterling (and her relationship with Dean and Cassie). What a queen.
- This quote: "I know that you care about him. I know that you’re attracted to him. I know that when he hurts, it hurts you. I know that he never looks at you the way he looks at Lia, that you’re not a sister to him. I know that he wants you. He’s in over his head with you. But I also know that half the time, he hates that he wants you."
