Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
by Jeanette Winterson
4.5
A really stunning memoir.
Winterson has a unique way of writing that is both direct and poetic. She jumps in time to weave meaning between moments. Most of all, I think this memoir is concerned with meaning: spiritual meaning, meaning in relationships (love is discussed at length, and these parts were very meaningful to me), and the meanings of home and origin. Winterson has a lot to say about the working class, religion, queerness and healing from trauma. I would highly recommend.
