Poison
by Sarah Pinborough
Usually I don't pick up books about fairytales.. however, wicked fairytales are another story all together.
This book brought together multiple fairytales and twisted them into one really WICKED story. There's Aladdin, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, etc.
One of my favorite scenes in Poison is after Aladdin gives Lilith the comb. Lilith tried to give it to Snow White as an apology and a servant puts it on and dies. Now everyone things that the queen is out to kill Snow White (I mean she is but the townspeople weren't supposed to know 😉) so Lilith takes her anger out on Aladdin (by the way Aladdin is the genie). Lilith melts gold and paints it on the outside of the lamp and then pours the rest into the spout thus locking Aladdin inside the lamp forever! Sounds pretty wicked, right?
I really liked this book but I didn't give it five stars because I didn't really care for some of the way it was wrote. I know that obviously it takes place back when they had cottages and carriages and all of that so Sarah used the way that the characters would talk. I'm just not one for that kind of writing.
Sarah Pinborough you did an amazing job and thought of some really wicked things to write in this book. I loved it.
