An immersive crime novel embued with sharp wit and laugh out loud euphemisms. No, it isn't a heist novel in the most traditional sense but Ray Carney isn't your average crook. After all, he's only slightly bent when it comes to being crooked. I loved Carney and the grit and community of the neighbourhood shone. It was my first Colson Whitehead but certainly not my last.
