Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening by Marjorie Liu

4.0

This is good. Really good. It drops you into the world and immediately begins setting the stage and unraveling the small mysteries. The artwork ranges from above average to breathtaking, and blends some of the best of Japanese and Western comic styles. The writing is good and gives us characters to love and hate. I look forward to getting the next trade and/or switching to single issues. I'm glad I made the time to read this.

Note: this does get dark and violent, it is definitely aimed at a mature audience.
