Thanks to PenPal PR for the ARC of It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia, in exchange of an honest review.
Let me start by saying that I really liked a lot of elements of this book. I ADORED the relationship between Cliff and his daughters, Emily and Brit. I LOVED seeing Michelle and Emily and Britt, it didn't feel forced and their relationship felt natural. I really enjoyed Michelle's and Cliff's banter, and I think they had a lot of chemistry.
HOWEVER, this is just not my favorite book from Julie. While her writing is still one of my favorites and like all of her books, this has such a comforting feel, I think it was just too long for my liking. The pacing was too slow for me (NOT THE ROMANCE, I love SLOW burn romance), but I wanted to see more of them together, I wanted to see more of them building the relationship. Throughout the book they talk about how they spend time together, how they see each other and help each other through the week, but we have to rely on that in stead of getting shown that development. It's just a thing of personal preference. I was a bit annoyed at their conflict, and I honestly don't feel it was fully resolved, I just wanted them to communicate, but alas, they didn't , and didn't seem to care they didn't talk it through.
I do recommend this book for those looking for a cozy read (NOT SHORT, just cozy) and THIS is SINGLE DAD done right!
