I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone
by Stephanie Kuehnert
A little too cliche for my tastes - girl gets abandoned by her mother who left her and her dad, because she was haunted by an abusive boyfriend. Mom goes on to bum around, stripping for drug money. Girl grows up and also gets involved with abusive guy without knowing her mother's story, goes looking for mom and starts doing drugs too. Somehow in the midst of all of this the girl's band makes it big and she finally gets to meet her mom while she's on tour - there's an angry, tear filled reunion and that's it. From all the praise this book got on it's jacket from writers I enjoy, I thought it would be better. I liked the music references/history and supporting characters, but I didn't really like the main character (she frustrated me) and the story was just way too predictable.
