Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
Okay, so.
I originally read this book in I think 2022 when I first started to get into queer ya books. Absolutely loved it as far as I remember.
Now I reread it, mostly just because a friend is also currently reading it and oh man.
The writing is bland. The characters are really childish/immature for their age. Ari and Dante both pissed me off so much, Ari for being so painfully oblivious to everything and also kinda naive, Dante for acting like an actual child instead of a teenager in his mid-late teens.
The plot really isn’t anything special unless you’re new to queer young adult coming of age romances, which is probably at least partially because other books are inspired by it but still.
Everything about this book is painfully cheesy.
While I did rate it 3 stars, it’s more of a 2.5 and only because I used to love this book. Realistically, this used to be a 4 or 4.5 star book for me and now it felt just barely like a 2.
