My first DNF in over a year. After just 100 pages, I now understand why this one is rated so poorly. Olivie is one of my favorite authors, but I truly believe her strength lies within standalones. I enjoyed these characters in the first book but after all this time, it’s hard to muster up enough will power to see this through the end. What was once intriguing and funny is now tired and dull. They’ve all become unbearable to read and I feel like everything about them, their dynamics, as well as the plot itself move in this never-ending circle. I love character-focused stories, but I need the characters to actually grow in some way, shape, or form.

She had an opportunity to really focus on rounding out the story but instead goes on long diatribe after long diatribe within each character’s POV. It’s all simultaneously too much and not enough. What a shame.
