After enjoying Demon Copperhead and The Poisonwood Bible so much, I’d hoped that this would be another 5-star read. In the end I didn’t think it reached the levels of those two books, largely because the plot was less interesting and slower to evolve, but the dialogue and relationships between characters were still compelling and emotive. The relationship between poverty and climate change was brought out and the characters felt ‘real’. Would still recommend this to others.
