Honestly, it was a treat to read this unexpected poetry collection by Megan Fox (yes — that Megan Fox). The poems are pretty uniformly heavy and dark in subject matter as Fox reflects on her many negative experiences with men (cw: various sorts of intimate partner abuse). Her powerful, self-aware, ironic voice really shines through where she confronts those hurts & takes control of those memories with a sense of play. You can see this reflected in poems with amazing titles like, “lessons in hot-boy demonology,” “i would die for y— oh j/k lol,” and “you’d be so much more handsome if you’d get an exorcism.” Some of the poems in here are really iconic!

Still, I think this is a lower-star review for me because many of the poems didn’t feel ready for publication. There are heavy Rupi Kaur influences here, but not as much control. I’m glad a read it! A quick and surprising and sometimes moving book.
