Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
5.0
There's very, very little to be said about the genius of Jane Austen that hasn't been better expressed already. This is a masterpiece that embodies philosophy, does away with needless description, furnishes dialogue with a grounded beauty and whose characters are so charming and/or detestable that their afterlives in fiction, cinema and our cultural language, needs must speak for the charm of the author's art.
