The Power of the Dog by Thomas Savage
4.0

My interest in the book was piqued when I learned Jane Campion had made a dramatization of the book. What about this story compelled Campion to take on this project?
It is clear to me now that once again, Campion was attracted to the characters. Savage wrote a finely crafted psychological drama. The story is what the characters are to each other, more than what they ‘do’ or what ‘happens’ in the course of the book. The afterword by Annie Proulx was particularly illuminating.
