I REALLY struggled w/how to rate this. As a piece of nostalgia, 5 stars. Took me right back. I was legit obsessed w/these in the late 80s.
As a piece of writing? Maybe 2. Very simple. One of two small high school or family dramas per book. Some big event: a game, a dance, etc. The dialogue reads more 50s than 80s.
As a predictably problematic product of its time? 0 stars, friends. I really would not recommend these unless you’re reading them for either nostalgia or comedy.
Or maybe as a window into Gen X? To figure out if you’re a Jessica or an Elizabeth? I was an aspiring Jess, but 99% Liz, despite my best efforts.
