I have little interest in espionage, the Cold War, thrillers, mysteries, etc.... however despite this La Carre sucked me in with his charming descriptions, sharply portrayed characterizations, and overall wonderful prose. The book dunks the reader into a fully realized separate world, with information about the situation or characters parceled out sparingly, in small details throughout -- to the point where I was often (usually) confused, but nonetheless spellbound. Truly a masterfully crafted work.
